Following an Australian Government announcement to launch an innovation hub for entrepreneurs in Shanghai last month, AustCham Beijing’s Chair Tracy Colgan has weighed in on the subject. Colgan supported the decision to establish the hub, suggesting China had some valuable insights to offer Australia, however commented that Shanghai was not the ideal location for the hub. She articulated that Beijing would be a preferable option, as it is the innovation capital of China, particularly with China’s own Silicon Valley located right here in Beijing’s Haidian district.
Australian government ministers have also commented on the new innovation hub. Christopher Pyne, the Australian Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, emphasized that entrepreneurs utilising this hub will receive support on all fronts, particularly in the commercializing of their services and products. Whilst Wyatt Roy, Australian Assistant Minister for Innovation, also remarked on the Australia – China relationship at a Committee for Economic Development Event in Sydney recently, articulating the importance of innovation cooperation between the two countries.
The Chinese government is likewise committed to encouraging innovation and investment into the innovation arena.
